WSET Level 2 Award in Wines – In Person or Online

$850 – 5-class series plus exam
Includes all WSET study materials, wine samples selected by Jay Youmans MW, 5 in-person class sessions guided by a CWS instructor, the final examination, and postage for mailing of certificates of achievment to addresses in the U.S.

This 5-class course will be taught both in person at the Capital Wine School and on Zoom on Thursday evenings from 6:30pm – 9:30pm on the following dates: May 30, June 6, 13, 20 & 27.

Participants may choose to take the exam in person at the Capital Wine School on July 11 from 6:00pm – 7:00pm or online with remote invigilation on July 13 from 10:00am – 11:00am.  Please see additional details under the Exam Information section below.

The aim of the course is to focus on the key grape varieties and regions of the world. While the course provides an overview of the wines of the world, including main wine grapes and regions, it also covers factors affecting wine quality and style, grape growing, and basic winemaking practices. The course emphasizes tasting assessment and the skills required to describe the aromas and tastes of wine. It helps to develop fundamental tasting and assessment skills. During each class session, students  will taste 4-6 wines.

17 Guided Learning Hours (including one hour for the examination) and 11 hours’ private study.

EXAM INFORMATION (The exam takes one hour to complete)

The exam takes 1 hour and consists of 50 multiple choice questions. Those who pass the exam receive the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines, an internationally recognized credential in the wine industry.

Students who enroll in this course may choose to take the exam in person on July 11 at 6:00pm, or online on July 13 at 10:00am.  Please be sure to choose the appropriate ticket indicating your exam choice, and be aware that we will be unable to make any changes to your exam choice after June 19.

Students considering an online exam should access the “RI-Candidate Information” document in the FAQ section of the website under “Can I Take My WSET Exam Online” to determine if this method of exam delivery is right for you.

Rescheduling of exams: Students who are unable to attend either of the scheduled exams associated with this course may request to defer to one of our other scheduled exams. COURSE MATERIALS

There is no pre-study required.

In person participants will receive their study materials at the first class.

Online participants may pick up their study materials and wine samples at the Capital Wine School between 12pm -5pm on May 29, or may have their materials shipped to them for an additional fee (please email info@capitalwineschool.com for more information on shipping).

Please note that all requests for shipping must be received at least 7 days before the first class. Wine samples and study materials will ship to arrive the day of or a day or two before the first class, and we cannot accommodate requests for earlier arrival, nor can we guarantee a delivery date.

INVITATION TO JOIN THE COURSE FOR ONLINE PARTICIPANTS: Zoom invitations will be emailed the day before or the morning of the first class.

*The Capital Wine School makes every effort to record each class and to make the recorded session available to participating students for up to one week after the scheduled class. While we have been able to successfully record these sessions for the vast majority of our classes, occasionally a technical glitch or human error will result in a failure to record some or all of a class. The Capital Wine School will not offer refunds or other concessions for classes that a student is unable to attend live, and for which a recorded session is unavailable due to an unexpected error. It is for this reason that we strongly encourage students to try to attend the live, online class session(s) as scheduled whenever possible.

*Because they tend to damage the certficates of achievement when mailed together, we are no longer including lapel pins with certficate mailings. Students who pass the exam and wish to collect the lapel pin for this qualification may email info@capitalwineschool.com to make an appointment to pick it up, or to request separate shipping for an additional fee.
