In anticipation of World Sake Day (October 1, 2023), the Capital Wine School is offering an in-person WSET Level 1 Award in Sake course.

This is the perfect starting point for the novice sake enthusiast, or those working with sake. You will explore the main styles and types of sake through sight, smell and taste to develop an understanding of the key factors affecting flavours and aromas, and will learn about the processes and principles involved in the production, storage, and service of sake. Also included in the course is a printed WSET Level 1 Sake workbook, and the in-person exam at the end of class (30 multiple choice questions in 45 minutes). Students who pass the exam will be awarded the WSET Level 1 Award in Sake and will receive a certificate and lapel pin.

Caroline Hermann MW, WSET Certified Sake Educator (2018), Advanced Sake Professional (2020), Diploma in Sake from the Japan Sommelier Association (2020) 

Schedule: 
9:00am to 12:00pm – Instruction (theory and sake tasting)
12:00pm – 12:45pm – Lunch on your own
12:45pm – 2:00pm – Review/exam prep
2:00pm – 2:45pm – Exam
Classroom time + exam:
5 3/4 hours of “guided learning hours” (includes 45 min exam)
30 multiple choice questions in 45 minutes
70% to pass (no merit or distinction awarded)
