WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines: Unit D5 Fortified Wine Online Live (wine samples included)

This course will be taught by a Capital Wine School instructor via Zoom from 6:30pm – 9:30pm on April 17, 24, May 1, 15 and a practice exam on Zoom from 6:30pm – 8:30pm on May 29.  The final exam is in person at the Capital Wine School on June 12 at 3:30pm.

This course covers tasting technique, Port, Sherry, Madeira, fortified Grenache and Muscat, and other fortified wines of the world. Students will gain an understanding of how grape growing, winemaking, maturation, wine law and wine business influences the style, quality and price of the principal fortified wines of the world. The exam is 90 minutes and consists of an assessment of 3 wines tasted blind, and multiple-part open response theory questions.

Candidates should complete Units D1 and D2 before enrolling in this course.

The course fee includes four class sessions, practice exam, wine samples, and the Unit D5 Examination at Capital Wine School.

Wine samples will be available for pickup curbside by appointment at the Capital Wine School on April 16 between 12:00pm – 5:00pm. There will be a follow up pickup date for the practice exam samples on May 28 between 12pm – 5pm. Students who request shipping of their wine samples will receive and need to pay for these two separate shipments. Shipping requests must be received at least 7 days before the first class and/or practice exam.

Important Note regarding the exam:

• Students who register for this course on or before April 7 will be automatically enrolled in the June 12 exam. These students must let us know by April 7 if they will be unable to attend the exam on June 12 if they wish to reschedule their exam at no additional charge. Requests to reschedule the exam received after April 7 will incur a new exam fee of $325.00.
• Students who register for this course after April 7 will not be eligible to take the exam on June 12 and will need to contact the staff of the Capital Wine School to schedule an alternate exam date. The next available exam date will be October 22, 2024.

Wine sample/study guide pickps: Please make a note of the wine sample pickup date mentioned above, as it will not appear on your registration confirmation. We cannot accommodate requests for wine sample pickups in advance of the date/times mentioned above. Students who are unable to come to the school to pick up their wine samples may have their materials shipped to them for an additional shipping fee – please email info@capitalwineschool.com for more information. Finally, wine samples for those who request and pay for shipping will ship to arrive the day of the first scheduled class, and we cannot accommodate requests for earlier arrival.

Invitation to join course: Zoom invitations will be emailed the day of the first class.

*The Capital Wine School makes every effort to record each class and to make the recorded session available to participating students for up to one week after the scheduled class. While we have been able to successfully record these sessions for the vast majority of our classes, occasionally a technical glitch or human error will result in a failure to record some or all of a class. The Capital Wine School will not offer refunds or other concessions for classes that a student is unable to attend live, and for which a recorded session is unavailable due to an unexpected error. It is for this reason that we strongly encourage students to try to attend the live, online class session(s) as scheduled whenever possible.
