The original Super Tuscan wines were a group of wines that were made in Tuscany, Italy in the 1970s and 1980s that challenged the traditional regulations for Tuscan wines. These wines were made from a blend of grape varieties that were not typically grown in the region, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, and were not eligible to receive the DOC or DOCG designations.
Some of the most famous original Super Tuscan wines include Tignanello, Sassicaia, and Ornellaia. These wines were made by pioneering winemakers who wanted to create modern, high-quality wines that were not bound by the traditional regulations of Tuscan wine production.
Join us for a tasting of 10 of these highly-prized wines that are known for their complexity and aging potential.
