WSET Level 4 Diploma in Wines: Unit D5 Fortified Wine Online Live (wine samples included)

This course will be taught by a Capital Wine School instructor via Zoom on August 22, 29, and September 5 from 6:30pm – 9:30pm with a practice exam and debrief on September 12 from 6:30pm – 8:30pm. The final exam is October 24, 2023 at 3:30pm at the Capital Wine School; The exam is included in the registration fee.

This course covers tasting technique, Port, Sherry, Madeira, fortified Grenache and Muscat, and other fortified wines of the world. Students will gain an understanding of how grape growing, winemaking, maturation, wine law and wine business influences the style, quality and price of the principal fortified wines of the world. The exam is 90 minutes and consists of an assessment of 3 wines tasted blind, and multiple-part open response theory questions.

Candidates should complete Units D1 and D2 before enrolling in this course.

The course fee includes three class sessions, practice exam, wine samples, and the Unit D5 Examination at Capital Wine School.

Wine samples will be available for pickup curbside by appointment at the Capital Wine School on August 21 between 12:00pm – 5:00pm. There will be a follow up pickup date for the practice exam samples on September 11, 2023 between 12pm – 5pm. Students who request shipping of their wine samples will receive and need to pay for these two separate shipments. Shipping requests must be received on or before August 15.

Important Note regarding the exam:

• Students who register for this course on or before August 20 will be automatically enrolled in the October 24 exam. These students must let us know by August 20 if they will be unable to attend the exam on October 24 if they wish to reschedule their exam at no additional charge. Requests to reschedule the exam received after August 20 will incur a new exam fee of $325.00.
• Students who register for this course after August 20 will not be eligible to take the exam on October 24 and will need to contact the staff of the Capital Wine School to schedule an alternate exam date. The next available exam date will be January 24, 2024.

Wine sample/study guide pickps: Please make a note of the wine sample pickup date mentioned above, as it will not appear on your registration confirmation. We cannot accommodate requests for wine sample pickups in advance of the date/times mentioned above. Students who are unable to come to the school to pick up their wine samples may have their materials shipped to them for an additional shipping fee – please email info@capitalwineschool.com for more information. Requests for shipping must be received by August 13. Finally, wine samples for those who request and pay for shipping will ship to arrive the day of the first scheduled class, and we cannot accommodate requests for earlier arrival.

Invitation to join course: Zoom invitations will be emailed the day of the first class.

*The Capital Wine School makes every effort to record each class and to make the recorded session available to participating students for up to one week after the scheduled class. While we have been able to successfully record these sessions for the vast majority of our classes, occasionally a technical glitch or human error will result in a failure to record some or all of a class. The Capital Wine School will not offer refunds or other concessions for classes that a student is unable to attend live, and for which a recorded session is unavailable due to an unexpected error. It is for this reason that we strongly encourage students to try to attend the live, online class session(s) as scheduled whenever possible.
