Eligibility

  • For current Diploma candidates only
  • Must have completed Units D1 and D2 before attempting D3
  • Strongly recommended: complete D4 and/or D5 beforehand to improve success
  • Enrollment in the WSET Diploma program is valid for three years. Candidates who have not passed all six units by the end of their three-year term must re-register for another three-year term in order to continue. Final Exam (Automatic Enrollment)

May 12–13, 2026 – In-Person at Capital Wine School

  • Day 1: Theory Exam – May 12 at 11:00am (check-in 10:30am) Essay/open-response questions, two sessions, 3.5 hours total
  • Day 2: Tasting Exam – May 13 at 10:30am (check-in 10:00am) Two sessions (1.5 hours each), 12 wines tasted blind

Deferral Policy:

Students who are unable to attend the exam date associated with this course may request registration for a future scheduled exam for $750.00.


Course Content

This unit covers:

  • How grape-growing, winemaking, maturation, wine law and wine business influence the style, quality and price of the principal still wines
  • How to taste and evaluate still wines using the WSET Level 4 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine®(SAT)

Wine Samples

  • Pickup: Available curbside at Capital Wine School, Fridays 12–5pm before each course weekend. Example: Samples for Jan 10–11 available Jan 9

  • Shipping: Available for an additional fee. Requests for shipping for this course must be received by January 4. Samples typically ship to arrive on the Friday preceding the weekend session, although in some instances they may arrive a day or two earlier (delivery date cannot be guaranteed). Additional Information

  • All Diploma study materials are digital (no physical books) in the WSET Global Campus Online Classroom. Contact us if you need help accessing them.
  • In addition to the guided learning hours/classroom time offered in this course, the WSET recommends a minimum of 170 hours of private study time for this unit.
  • A course syllabus will be made available to registered participants closer to the course start date.

  • To ensure a quality experience for all participants, each class or course requires a minimum number of registrations. If this minimum is not met, we may need to cancel the session. In such cases, registered students will be notified as soon as possible and provided with options for rescheduling or a full refund.

Class Recordings

  • Classes are recorded and made available for at least 1 week after the session. Students who wish to be able to access the recordings more than one week after the live session are encouraged to download the recordings to a laptop, external hard drive, or other video file storage platform.
  • Occasionally, technical or human error may prevent recording. Refunds or concessions are not available.
  • Students are encouraged to attend live whenever possible.

Exam Rescheduling
