$1500.00 – 4 day course with wine samples
Includes all WSET study materials, 4 full-day sessions guided by a WSET Diploma certified instructor, two preparatory Zoom sessions in advance of the in person course, wine tasting samples selected by Jay Youmans MW, the final exam, and mailing of certificates of achievement to addresses in the U.S.

This course will meet in person at the Capital Wine School from 9:00am – 4:00pm, Thursday – Sunday, April 11 – 14.  Participants who register for the course on or before March 28 will take the exam at the end of class on April 14 from 6:00pm – 8:30pm. Participants who register for this course on or after March 29 will not be eligible to take the exam on April 14; these participants may take the exam on one the following dates/times: June 25 at 2:00pm or September 3 at 2:00pm. 

Schedule

Tuesday, March 19: Zoom session from 6:30p – 9:30pm – Introduction to the Level 3 Wine curriculum and exam format.
Wednesday, April 3: Zoom session from 6:30pm – 8:30pm – Study recap and pre-intensive weekend preparation.
Thursday, April 11 : Class meets in person from 9:00am – 4:00pm with a short break for lunch
Friday, April 12: Class meets in person from 9:00am – 4:00pm with a short break for lunch
Saturday, April 13: Class meets in person from 9:00am – 4:00pm with a short break for lunch.
Sunday, April 14: Class meets in person from 9:00am – 4:00pm with a short break for lunch, followed by the exam for those eligible from 6:00pm – 8:30pm.

**Students who register for the course after each of the Zoom sessions mentioned above will receive a link to a recording of the Zoom session upon registration.


This is an advanced level qualification for professionals working in the wine industry and for wine enthusiasts. It is recommended that you hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines or can demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge before enrolling in this course.

For individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wines, this qualification provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and wine making. Upon completion you will be able to assess wines accurately, and use your understanding to confidently explain wine style and quality. Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin, and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo.

You will learn:

The key factors in the production of wine: location, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottling

How these key factors influence the key characteristics of the principal still wines of the world; sparkling wines of the world; and fortified wines of the world

How to apply your understanding to explain wine style and quality

How to taste wines, describe their characteristics and evaluate their quality, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)

Recommended Learning Hours for this qualification: 32.5 Guided Learning Hours (including 2.5 hours for the examination) and 51.5 hours of private study.

Study Materials
The WSET Level 3 study pack (textook and workbook) will be mailed to registered participants via USPS Priority Mail the week of March 11, and weekly thereafter for new registrants. Students who register on or after April 5 will need to come to the school to pick up their study materials by appointment if they wish to receive them ahead of the first class session, or they may receive them the morning of the first class session.


Exam Information 

  • As mentioned above, participants who register for this course on or before March 28 will take the exam at 6:00pm on April 14.
  • Participants who register for this course on or after March 29 will not be eligible to take the exam on April 14 and should email info@capitalwineschool.com after registering to let us know if they would prefer to take the exam on June 25 or September 3 at 2:00pm.

Rescheduling of exams: Students who are unable to attend the scheduled exams associated with this course may request to defer to one of our other future scheduled exams. *Because they tend to damage the certficates of achievement when mailed together, we are no longer including lapel pins with certficate mailings. Students who pass the exam and wish to collect the lapel pin for this qualification may email info@capitalwineschool.com to make an appointment to pick it up, or to request separate shipping for an additional fee.
