This is an advanced level qualification for professionals working in the wine industry and for wine enthusiasts. It is recommended that you hold the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines or can demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge before enrolling in this course.
For individuals seeking to delve deeper into the world of wines, this qualification provides a detailed understanding of grape growing and wine making. Upon completion you will be able to assess wines accurately, and use your understanding to confidently explain wine style and quality. Upon successful completion you will receive a WSET certificate and lapel pin, and will be able to use the associated WSET certified logo.
You will learn:
The key factors in the production of wine: location, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottling
How these key factors influence the key characteristics of the principal still wines of the world; sparkling wines of the world; and fortified wines of the world
How to apply your understanding to explain wine style and quality
How to taste wines, describe their characteristics and evaluate their quality, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
Recommended Learning Hours for this qualification: 32.5 Guided Learning Hours (including 2.5 hours for the examination) and 51.5 hours of private study.
We recommend reviewing the specification for the WSET Level 3 Award in Wines prior to your course; you may click here to download a PDF of the WSET Level 3 Wine specification.
Study Materials
Study materials will be mailed to students via USPS Priority Mail on May 18, and weekly thereafter for new registrants. Due to the condensed nature of our intensive courses, it is recommended that students register early enough to receive their textbook in the initial mailing. Advanced reading of the textbook prior to the 4-day in person course weekend is recommended, as is a review of the specification linked to above.
Students who register on or after June 18 will need to come to the school to pick up their study materials by appointment if they wish to receive them ahead of the first in person class session, or they may receive them the morning of the first in person class session.
