$695.00 – 3 day course with wine samples
Includes all WSET study materials, 3 full-day sessions guided by a WSET Diploma certified instructor, wine tasting samples selected by Jay Youmans, MW, the final exam, and postage for mailing of study materials and certificates and lapel pins.

This class will meet in person at the Capital Wine School on August 19, 20 and 21. Participants who register on or before August 4 will be eligible to take a paper-based exam at the end of class on August 21 *or* an online exam with remote invigilation on September 10 at 10:00am. Participants who register on or after August 5 must take the exam online with remote invigilation on September 10 at 10:00am. Participants will be required to present proof of vaccination against Covid-19 or a negative PCR test taken within 72 to hours of the first class.

Schedule

Friday, August 19: Class meets from 9:00am – 4:00pm with a short break for lunch
Saturday, August 20: Class meets from 9:00am – 4:00pm with a short break for lunch
Sunday, August 21: Class meets from 9:00am – 3:00pm with a short break for lunch, followed by the exam from 3:00pm – 4:00pm for attendees who register on or before August 4 and who wish to take the a paper-based exam at the end of the last class session.
Saturday, September 10: 10:00am online, remotely invigilated exam for attendees who registered on or after August 5, or pre-August 5 registrants who wish to take the exam online.
*The cost of lunch is not included in the registration fee. Participants may bring their own lunch or visit one of the local eateries.
*The format of this course is subject to change to a virtual format depending on Covid caseload in the DC/VA/MD area.


The aim of the course is to focus on the key grape varieties and regions of the world. While the course provides an overview of the wines of the world, including main wine grapes and regions, it also covers factors affecting wine quality and style, grape growing, and basic winemaking practices. The course emphasizes tasting assessment and the skills required to describe the aromas and tastes of wine. It helps to develop fundamental tasting and assessment skills.

Students will taste 8-9 wines during each class session.

The exam takes 1 hour and consists of 50 multiple choice questions. Those who pass the exam receive the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines, an internationally recognized credential in the wine industry.

17 Guided Learning Hours (including one hour for the examination) and 11 hours’ private study.

Study Materials
Study materials will be mailed to students via USPS Priority Mail approximately 3 weeks before the first class. Students who register with less than three weeks until the first class will have their study materials mailed within 3 business days of registration. Students who register on or after August 12 will need to come to the school to pick up their study materials by appointment if they wish to receive them ahead of the first class, or they may receive them the morning of the first class.


Exam Information 

  • Participants who register for this course on or before August 4 have the option to take a paper-based exam at the end of class on August 21, or online with remote invigilation on September 10 at 10:00am.
  • Participants who register for this course on or after August 5 will be automatically registered to take the exam online with remote invigilation on September 10 at 10:00am.
  • Participants should access the “RI-Candidate Information” document in the FAQ section of the website under “Can I Take My WSET Exam Online” to determine if this method of exam delivery is right for you.

Important: Due to WSET exam order deadlines, we are unable to make any changes to participants’ exam choice without collecting a new exam fee after August 4. Any requests for rescheduling of exam after August 4 will incur a $150 new exam fee.
