$695.00 – 3 day course with wine samples
Includes all WSET study materials, 3 full-day sessions guided by a WSET Diploma certified instructor, wine tasting samples selected by Jay Youmans, MW, the final exam, and postage for mailing of study materials and certificates and lapel pins.

This class will meet on July 16, 17 and 18. Students will attend the course in-person at the Capital Wine School. Students who register on or before July 1 will take a paper-based exam at the end of class on July 18. Participants who register on or after July 2 will take the exam online with remote invigilation on August 7 at 10:00am. Only participants who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 may attend this course.

Schedule

Friday, July 16: Class meets from 9:00am – 4:00pm with a short break for lunch
Saturday, July 17: Class meets from 9:00am – 4:00pm with a short break for lunch
Sunday, July 18: Class meets from 9:00am – 3:00pm with a short break for lunch, followed by the exam from 3:00pm – 4:00pm for attendees who registered on or before July 1.
Saturday, August 7: 10:00am online, remotely invigilated exam for attendees who registered on or after July 2.


The aim of the course is to focus on the key grape varieties and regions of the world. While the course provides an overview of the wines and spirits of the world, including main wine grapes and regions, it also covers factors affecting wine quality and style, grape growing, and basic winemaking practices. The course emphasizes tasting assessment and the skills required to describe the aromas and tastes of wine. It helps to develop fundamental tasting and assessment skills.

The exam takes 1 hour and consists of 50 multiple choice questions. Those who pass the exam receive the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines and Spirits, an internationally recognized credential in the wine industry.

17 Guided Learning Hours (including one hour for the examination) and 11 hours’ private study.

Study Materials
Study materials will be mailed to students via USPS Priority Mail approximately 2 weeks before the first day of class. Students who register with less than two week to go until the first class will have their study materials mailed within 3 business days of registration, or they may come by the school to pick up their study materials by appointment. Students who register on or after July 10 will need to come to the school to pick up their study materials by appointment if they wish to receive them ahead of the first class, or they may receive them the morning of the first class.


 

Exam Information 

  • Students who register for this course on or before July 1 will be automatically registered to take a paper-based exam at the end of class on July 18.
  • Participants who register on or after July 2, will be automatically registered to take an online, remotely-invigilated exam on August 7 at 10:00am. These participants should access the “RI-Candidate Information” document in the FAQ section of the website under “Can I Take My WSET Exam Online” to determine if this method of exam delivery is right for you. Online participants, and in-person participants who register on or after July 2 who would prefer to wait to take a paper exam in person should email us at info@capitalwineschool.com after registering so we can add you to a notification list for when new in-person exams are available.

Important: Due to WSET exam order deadlines, students who wish to reschedule an in-person paper-based exam must notifiy us at least 12 business days before the exam date, and students who wish to reschedule an online/remote exam must notify us at least 9 business days before the exam date, in order to avoid paying a new exam fee. Requests for rescheduling after these times will incur a new exam fees of $125.00.
