In the 1940s, Mario Incisa della Rocchetta planted Cabernet Sauvignon on his estate in Bolgheri for private use, but friends and family suggested the wine be released commercially. In 1971, the 1st vintage of Sassicaia was released. That same year Antinori released Tignanelllo. The reaction to Sassicaia and Tignanello had a profound impact on winemaking in the region, and during the next decade a number of Tuscan wineries began experimenting with their own Super Tuscans. These wines would become some of the most famous and expensive wines produced in Italy. Below is the lineup we will taste:
2017 Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia
2018 Antinori Tignanello
2017 Tenuta dell’Ornellaia Ornelllaia
2017 Antinori Solaia
2017 Isole-e-Olena Cepparello
2017 Castelllare I Sodi di San Nicolo
2016 Fontodi Flaccianello
2011 Sette Ponti Oreno
