1 1/2 hours, $85 – In person

While the wines of Greece have been garnering much overdue attention in recent years, the wines from Crete – Greece’s third largest wine producing region – still remain relatively unknown to all but a fortunate few. Chrisa Giorgi – a Cretan native – aims to change this with her new documentary “In the Wine Dark Sea”, which has received awards from several international film festivals and is now available to rent or purchase on Amazon Prime.

Join Chrisa for an in-person tasting of native Cretan varietals such as Vidiano, Vilana, Mandilaria, and Kotsifali, as well as some international varietals that perform very well in Cretan soil. We will taste 10 wines.

If you are a little intimidated because you don’t recognize some of these grape names, we invite you to rent or purchase the documentary on Amazon Prime and view it before attending. The film, which contains stunning footage from Crete and features informative interviews with a broad range of experts, producers, and consumers, will give you a solid education in these wines and will whet your appetite to try them!

Fun fact: Chrisa is also a WSET Diploma student at the Capital Wine School, and if you have attended classes or WSET courses with us you may recognize one of our instructors and several other CWS alumni in the film.

Space is limited so we recommend registering soon to secure a seat.

This tasting is in person at the Capital Wine School. An email reminder will be sent to registered participants a day or two ahead of the tasting.

*Participants should be prepared to provide proof of vaccination against Covid-19, or a negative Covid-19 PCR test result taken within 72 hours of the class.
