The WSET Level 4 Diploma is the highest certification offered by the WSET. The Diploma is comprised of 6 Units, and it can take 2-3 years to complete the full program. The WSET Level 4 Diploma is the WSET’s flagship qualification, designed to prepare those in the trade for senior positions within the wines and spirits business.  This qualification is also suitable for the dedicated wine enthusiast wishing to build on knowledge gained at Level 3 and acquire further expertise in wine tasting. The course of study will not only develop product knowledge to a specialist level, but will also enable students to acquire skills that will continue to be of use beyond the course. Please note, students must have passed the WSET Level 3 exam in order to register for the Diploma program.

The Diploma program begins with Unit # 2, Wine Production. Every Diploma student must take the Unit #2 course and exam before moving on to other Diploma Units. The Capital Wine School typically offers the Unit #2 course and exam twice each year. Currently scheduled courses and exams for Unit #2 can be found here.

After taking the Unit # 2 exam, Diploma students take the remaining units in any order they choose. The Capital Wine School does recommend that Unit #3 be a student’s final unit, however. Currently scheduled courses and exams for Diploma Units to be taken after Unit #2 units can be found by clicking on the appropriate unit below:

    • Unit # 1 – The Global Business of Alcoholic Beverages
(An introductory seminar may be offered twice each year.)
    • Unit # 3 – Light Wines of the World
(A 10-week course with the full exam in January.)
    • Unit # 4 – Spirits of the World
(A 4-week course may be offered twice each year.)
    • Unit # 5 – Sparkling Wines of the World
(A 3-week course may be offered twice each year.)
    • Unit # 6 – Fortified (Liqueur) Wines of the World
(A 3-week course may be offered twice each year.)

Unit #2 is the only Diploma Unit that allows the Approved Programme Provider to choose its own examination dates. Exams for the remaining Diploma Units are scheduled by the WSET, and these examinations have strict registration deadlines. The WSET calendar runs from August 1 to July 31, each year.
