Aside from the two exceptions of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc (from Marlborough) and Australian Yellow Tail (from Hell), offerings from these three wine-producing countries are woefully scarce in the U.S.A.  The good news is that all three are ripe for discovery by adventuresome tasters who are willing to explore their best current releases.  New Zealand is turning out some of the world’s outstanding Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, as well as remarkable Syrah-based wines, excellent Pinot Gris and a few other small-production marvels.  Australia’s finest releases are now lamentably eclipsed by “Critter Wines” in the USA, but just as it is a continent unto itself, so too is Australia like an exotic wine world in miniature.  It produces unlikely but deeply convincing blends, some of the world’s best dry Rieslings, Grenache made from ancient, un-grafted vines, and much more.  Uruguay is one of the world’s few remaining undiscovered gems.  A very prosperous country (the Switzerland of South America”), it produces European styled, marine-influenced wines that are utterly different than Chilean or Argentinian wines from the Andes and also utterly delicious…as this tasting will demonstrate.

Wine samples available for pickup by appointment on Friday, November 19 between 12pm – 5pm.
